By completion of this course you will have the knowledge to carry out an IHM survey onboard vessels. You are prepared to get certified as an approved IHM / HazMat expert. All ships are subject to having a hazardous material survey and must carry out onboard a ship-specific IHM. Vessels should have an Inventory Certificate (for EU flagged vessels) or a Statement of Compliance (for non-EU flagged vessels calling at an EU port).
Course content:
- Knowledge of relevant legislation (SOLAS, ILO, IMO, HK-Confention, Basel-Confention, IHM)
- EU Ship Recycling Regulation
- Basic lay-out of vessels in general
- IHM preparation for new and existing vessels
- Hazardous Materials knowledge (a.o. asbestos, ceramics, Chrome-6, lead, ODS, PCB, PFAS/PFOS, HBCDD)
- The use of personal protective equipment
- Sampling (theory and in practice) - preparation of a Vessel Sampling Checking Plan (VSCP)
- Sample analysis, analysis methods and result interpretation
- IHM reporting and approvals
- Calculation of amounts based on the analysed results
- Essence of IHM protocols and work instructions
- Essence of IHM maintenance
- The student is also carrying out a survey onboard of a vessel.
The training will be provided on one of our training locations and is including lunch.
To become an approved IHM Surveyor you will need:
- to complete the training
- to take an exam
- to have a positive result on your exam
- to complete the training day onboard a vessel
- to succeed on an audit onboard the vessel
